In most weddings, it is no surprise that couples throw a celebration that leaves a lasting impression for all. A plenty of delicious food are served for the guests, and most of the time couples ordered more food just in case it's not enough. This usually causes a food surplus and the untouched food will eventually go to waste.
On the other side, hunger is still one of the most alarming challenges the world is facing, yet every week we throw away more and more food that can feed an entire village. Indonesia is a country of more than 260 million people, and in that statistic, there are approximately 20 million people, and more to count, suffering from malnutrition due to poverty.
With that in mind, ' A Blessing To Share' came to surface. Bridestory teamed up with Food Cycle, a non-profit organization that focuses on distributing food to those in need mainly in Jakarta, to help fight this problem and minimize hunger in our society. "Through A Blessing to Share, Bridestory and Food Cycle are encouraging couples from all over Jakarta to donate their surplus food to be shared among the less fortunate, so that their blessed day could be a blessed day for others too," said Kristi Joviani, Project Leader of A Blessing to Share from Bridestory.
What's more, this program is supported by GO-JEK through GO-SEND and GO-BOX fleets. GO-JEK will collect and deliver the surplus food from the wedding venue to the food shelter. Once it reaches the shelter, the food will be checked to ensure its quality before being distributed.
As you can see from the video above, it truly brings us joy just by looking at the gleaming faces of the recipient upon receiving their food. It is indeed always better to give than to receive. A change can always start within ourselves. A little act of kindness, your little act of kindness, can be a great impact on so many.
